$200,000 Challenge: Double your gift to WBU during Giving Tuesday

PLAINVIEW — A $200,000 challenge grant makes it possible for alumni, friends, and other supporters of Wayland Baptist University to double their gifts to the Thrive Campaign during Giving Tuesday, Dec. 3.

“Thanks to a few amazing donors, gifts up to $200,000 will be matched during Giving Tuesday,” said Teresa Young, a development officer with Wayland’s Office of Advancement. “Each gift doubles the investment, so there is no better time to support the university than this Tuesday.”

The campaign is in the home stretch and has already raised $17 million for various initiatives around the campuses that ultimately are aimed at helping recruit and retain excellent students to enjoy the unique Wayland experience grounded in faith. Remaining projects include dormitory and gathering space updates, a scholarship match for first-generation students, and a new scoreboard in Hutcherson Center.

“Donors really are able to expand their impact on the world by investing in Wayland and the students on our campuses,” the development officer said. “We view Giving Tuesday as a team event with alumni, friends and others coming together to enhance the university.”

“We are so excited to see the Thrive Campaign wrap up successfully because ultimately all of these initiatives point to enhancing the student experience and making Wayland a better place for everyone,” Young said. “We have already seen such great things happen and we want to finish strong. We can do this with help from our alumni and friends.”

A global event, Giving Tuesday started in 2012 as a single day to encourage people to do good by giving, both monetarily and through acts of kindness and assistance. Now in its 12th year, Giving Tuesday has become a tradition at Wayland, and the $200,000 matching grant makes Giving Tuesday especially important this year.

“With every passing year, we’re inspired even more to see the generosity of our friends and alumni,” Young said. “Giving Tuesday often sparks continued generosity throughout the year, through planned giving, estate gifts, endowed scholarships and other opportunities to be a part of what God is doing at Wayland.”
