PLAINVIEW – A total of 119 Wayland Baptist University students are scheduled to participate in commencement ceremonies at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 17, at the Hutcherson Center on the university’s Plainview campus.
Dr. Cindy McClenagan, Vice President for Academic Affairs, will present the candidates for degrees to Dr. Donna Hedgepath, University President, who will confer the degrees. She will be assisted by Carole Harbison, secretary of the Wayland Board of Trustees.
Alice Conely, a graduating senior from Lubbock, will deliver the student address. David Snellgrove, a graduating senior from Plainview, will read Philippians 1:6. The invocation will be offered by Gavin Armijo, a graduating senior from Albuquerque, N.M., and the benediction by Codi Wiley, a graduating senior from Pampa. Aspen DeHerrera, a graduating senior from Española, N.M., will lead the Pledge to the United States flag, and Taylor Ramage, a graduating senior from Roswell, N.M., will lead the Pledge to the Christian flag.
The hymn “Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing” will be directed by Rosa Ramirez, a graduating senior from Lubbock. Wayland’s Alma Mater will be led by Cooper Trolinger a graduating senior from Pampa.
Degrees to be awarded include one doctoral degree, 23 master’s degrees, five accelerated bachelor’s-to-master’s degrees, 89 bachelor’s degrees, and one associate degree.
Of the 119 candidates, 69 are from Texas, including seven from Plainview, 12 from Lubbock, and 10 from Amarillo. Graduates represent 37 Texas cities overall. An additional 30 graduates represent 14 other states and one U.S. territory, with seven from New Mexico, four from Oregon, and three each from California and Florida. Twenty international students representing 14 countries are also among the degree candidates.
