PLAINVIEW — Wayland Baptist University announces the promotion of longtime staff member Teresa Young to the role of Associate Vice President for Institutional Advancement.
A 1994 Wayland graduate, Young brings more than two decades of experience in communications, alumni engagement, and fundraising to her new position. She most recently served as Development Officer for Annual Gifts and Grants, where she played a key role in donor engagement and stewardship during the university’s successful Thrive campaign.
“Teresa has been a steady and faithful presence in Wayland's advancement efforts for many years,” said Mike Hammack, Vice President of Institutional Advancement. “She has built meaningful relationships with donors and alumni and has a deep understanding of the Wayland story. We are excited to see her take on this expanded leadership role.”
Young earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Mass Communication and English from Wayland in 1994 and a Master of Arts in Mass Communication from Texas Tech University in 2003. Before joining the university, she worked as a journalist for the Weatherford Democrat, Plainview Daily Herald, and Lubbock Avalanche-Journal.
She began her career at Wayland in July 2000 as Director of Public Relations and Communications. After a two-year stint serving in mission work with Athletes in Action in Ohio, Young returned to the university in 2013 as Director of Annual Giving. She later served as Director of Alumni Relations beginning in 2017 and moved into her most recent development role in 2022 ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉúϵÁÐÂ鶹.
“Wayland has shaped my life in profound ways—as a student and as a professional,” Young said. “I am honored to continue serving in this new role and to help advance the mission of this Christ-centered institution.”
In her new role, Young will manage strategic fundraising initiatives and provide leadership to the university’s development team.
