Associate Dean of Master's Programs, School of Business

LOCATION: Wayland Baptist University (WBU) – Plainview Campus 

ACADEMIC SCHOOL: School of Business

POSITION CLASSIFICATION:  Exempt

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:  The Associate Dean works under the supervision of the Dean of the School of Business to teach and serve as a secondary administrator for the School. As a faculty member of WBU, this individual will represent the University’s academic and spiritual emphasis to the students, faculty, staff, and the community in a manner consistent with the University’s mission and purpose. This is a twelve‐month position.                

SPECIFIC TASKS AND DUTIES:  

  1. Prepare and teach a minimum of 18 credit hours/year—usually three classes in the spring and three in the fall.
  2. Maintain regular office hours, M‐F, approximately 8:15‐5:00, most days of the workweek, as a part of a 12‐month contract. The summer months after May commencement until fall faculty development can be remote; however, key meetings and student advising may require some oncampus office hours.  
  3. As assigned by the School Dean, administer the daily functions of the School when applicable at the main campus, external campuses, and WBUonline.
  4. Advise graduate (including UHUB) students toward successful degree completion
  5. Manage the scheduling of UHUB courses throughout the year with the Executive Director of International Programs.
  6. Assist in hiring, supervising, and guiding School of Business full‐time and adjunct faculty.
  7. Assist in recruiting, advising, selecting qualified applicants, and retaining School of Business students for the Master’s programs while addressing student concerns and appeals.
  8. Assist in scheduling classes and developing course rotations for the School of Business on the Plainview and WBUonline Campuses.
  9. Assist in preparation and submission of required reports, such as the PBER/Planning, Budgeting, & Effectiveness Report, the annual budget, and the End‐of‐Year Report.
  10. Develop a familiarity with and adhere to university policies and procedures related to academics and the School of Business.
  11. Assist with collection and review of School of Business faculty credentials as a part of the EFQ/Evaluation of Faculty Qualifications process.
  12. Attend and participate in required School, Faculty, and University Committees and events. 13. Maintain a high level of confidentiality.

QUALIFICATIONS: A commitment of Christian Higher education and in agreement with the purposes and philosophy of Christian higher education as promoted by the Baptist General Convention of Texas/Texas Baptist in general and Wayland Baptist University in particular.

Education, Certification, and License: Earned doctorate in a discipline associated with the School of Buseinssld from a regionally accredited institution of higher education. ABD applicants are encouraged to apply. 

Experience & Knowledge:        

  1. Experience in or with teaching, scholarship, and service in higher education.
  2. Commitment to Christian higher education, the purposes and philosophy of higher education as promoted by the Baptist General Convention of Texas/Texas Baptists, as well as an appreciation of Wayland’s mission, Christian ideals, and Baptist heritage.
  3. Basic understanding and support of diverse approaches to higher education, including traditional residential programs, adult degree‐completion programs, online and distance learning programs, and international programs.

Skills & Abilities:           

  1. Excellent communication skills and flexibility in working with others.
  2. Personal qualities of strong Christian faith and integrity, and a general spirit of collegiality.
  3. Proficiency operating personal computers and various software applications such as Microsoft Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint, as well as willingness to learn PowerCampus, ImageNow, and Colleague.

Additional Requirements: 

  1. Endorsement by the Vice President of Academic Affairs.
  2. Able to pass Background Checks.
  3. Must have no delinquent or defaulted items on Credit Report. A credit check will be conducted to insure the requirement is met.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Employment is subject to an introductory period to monitor employee performance. Must be able to operate a licensed motor vehicle, have access to a dependable motor vehicle, and possess a valid state driver’s license.  Must have and maintain a satisfactory driver’s record.
